I started working on this Meet the Team article a bit late, so the only person available to answer this month’s questions on such short notice was myself. I guess it’s time for you to meet me – I’m Jodi ten Bohmer, Yieldr’s content marketer!
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Perth, Australia. It's one of the sunniest cities in the world, but also one of the most isolated. That's one of the reasons why I now live in Amsterdam.
What do you work on at Yieldr?
I'm in the Marketing team and I'm the person behind a lot of these blog posts. I also work on other content-related things, including newsletter updates and infographics.
When did you start working at Yieldr?
November 1, 2017. I got to fly to Lisbon for a work trip with the Yieldritas on my fourth day, so it was an awesome start!
You have 10 seconds to impress / surprise someone. What do you tell them?
I traveled to all 7 continents before I turned 30. Oh, and I once saw a man slip on a banana peel. I thought that kind of thing only happened in cartoons.
What's the most interesting job you've had?
I had a brief stint as a tour guide for bachelor parties in Amsterdam. I took groups on canal cruises and through pubs and clubs in the Red Light District. It was a little less sketchy than it sounds (so don't worry, Mum!) but still really interesting to get an insider's look at what goes on during these trips.
What was your path to Yieldr?
A lot of traveling and more than one quarter-life crisis! I finished university where I majored in Accounting and Business Law, then I saved some money to go backpacking for 5 months, and came back to Australia to start a job as a consultant at KPMG.
Nearly 3 years later I took a year off to travel - again! - and ended up in Amsterdam. After a few part-time jobs (bar work and the tour guide gig) I joined the search engine marketing team at a fashion e-commerce company. Then I moved on to Eurail.com for a few years where I managed the content for their sites and travel blog. And now I’m here at Yieldr :)
What do you love most about working at Yieldr?
I love the freedom and trust given to me to do my job, as well as the support from everyone when collaboration is needed. I also love the location and getting to know my Yieldr colleagues outside of the office.
Window seat or aisle seat?
Window seat, always. It's a pretty amazing privilege to watch the world from the sky.
What's your favorite/dream destination to fly to?
Perth, Australia. Nothing beats the feeling that comes from seeing my city lit up when I fly back home - it means I'll be seeing my family and friends again.
Have you ever missed a flight?
Yes, more than once, with a few more close calls. Reasons range from staying out too late the night before to talking too much in the terminal and then forgetting to head to the departure gate in time. 🙈 But in the end, it always leads to more interesting stories!
What's your favorite plane-related film or film scene?
Con Air – mainly for that scene where Nicolas Cage says, “Put – the bunny – back in the box.” I also love Billy Idol's cameo in the plane scene on The Wedding Singer.
