Our Rita is a well-traveled foodie and a talented illustrator. She's a calm spirit with a knack for hosting cozy gatherings in her Amsterdam apartment. You finally get to meet the lady behind all our awesome Yieldr art – Rita Ferreira!
Where are you from?
I am from Albufeira, a city in the south of Portugal. It's in the Algarve, a touristic region well known for the beaches and sunny weather. It's also full of Dutch tourists, so when I go home I feel like I never left Amsterdam. :)
When did you start working at Yieldr?
I started working at Yieldr in July 2014, in Berlin. In October of the same year, I moved to the Yieldr office in Amsterdam.
What do you work on at Yieldr?
I am part of the Marketing Team, working as a graphic designer and illustrator.
I work on all the illustrations featured on our social media, infographics, white papers and one-pagers. I also work on the internal communications by creating company swag, events materials and presentations, giving all the visual support that the team may need.
What was your path to your current role at Yieldr?
I've always studied arts. I started in high school, and then I graduated in Communication Design at the Fine Arts University in Lisbon.
Because I was always very interested about drawing in general and illustration in particular, I also joined a summer course for children’s book illustration at the Saint Martins School in London.
In Portugal I worked in advertising agencies as a graphic designer and art director until the moment economical crisis in Portugal became critical. Then I accepted an invitation to move to Berlin to join the marketing team of a tech startup, where I used to do all the communication materials as well as some brand engagement campaigns and banner design for games.
It was in this company that I met and worked closely with Joe, my supporter at Yieldr today, and accepted his offer to change to Yieldr in Berlin, moving later on to Amsterdam.
What do you love most about working at Yieldr?
I really love my team (marketing) and our working spirit. But I also like the company culture, which improved a lot in the last years, the variety of nationalities and all the office initiatives (including going to conferences).
What’s your favorite Yieldr value and why?
My favourite value is Answer the Bell. I consider myself a team player, and I love to be there when my team needs me, to be able to help and make myself useful.
What’s your favorite thing to do outside of work?
Simple things like trying out new restaurants with my boyfriend or enjoying a glass of wine with friends.
What’s something about you that will surprise your colleagues?
The fact that I have already had the chance to live twice.
That’s why I am so grateful and try everyday to make the best of my life, doing only what makes me happy.
What’s your favorite plane-related film quote?
“Life’s better with company. Everybody needs a co-pilot” - Up In the Air.
What’s one big thing on your bucket list?
Travel the world without a deadline.
Do you have any funny plane or airport stories?
It's not a super funny story, but more of an awkward one. Once when I was flying from Berlin to Faro, I got the middle seat in between a couple with a baby. During the whole flight they were feeding him and there was food falling down on my lap, the kid was grabbing my hair while eating, and they even changed his diapers on board. It was a busy 3-hour flight. :)
What’s your dream destination to fly to?
I had always dreamed about flying to Rio de Janeiro, but I already covered that one.
Another dream destination is Buenos Aires!
